Paredes pintadas a medias – Half painted walls

Pintar una pared puede revolucionar una habitación. ¿Y pintarla a medias? Cada vez nos encontramos con más paredes que combinan dos tonos, y no me refiero a las tres paredes de la habitación de un tono neutral y la pared restante de un color más fuerte que resalte. Ahora hablo de partir la pared en dos y pintar cada lado de un color. Parece una locura o lo clásico de «parte de abajo de madera o papel que lo aguante todo, luego una cenefa y liso arriba», pero no hablo de paredes pintadas en dos tonos con la misma textura y en muchos casos sin separación entre los colores.

Ventajas: es sencillo de implementar, barato (¡cuesta la mitad que pintarla entera!), decora, crea un efecto diferente y, si la parte de abajo tiene un tono más oscuro, la pared será más resistente a rozaduras y las obras de los grafiteros resultarán más discretas. Además, permite utilizar colores oscuros en la parte inferior manteniendo la luminosidad de la habitación si en la parte superior mantenemos colores claros.

Painting a wall can transform a room but painting it in halves can shake it up! In the last weeks we have seen lots of rooms combining two different colors, and we are not talking of rooms with 3 walls in a neutral color and the other wall more colorful to cause a «wow effect». I am talking of spliting the wall in two and painting each side with a different tone. It can sound crazy or you might think in the classic nurseries of the 80´s «with a wood panel or a resistible wallpaper down, then a trimming and plain painting on top». No! I mean walls painted in two colors with the same texture and in most cases with no elements in between the two tones. 

Pro´s: it is easy to do, it is cheap (it costs half than painting it all!), it decorates a room, it makes a different and original effect and if the lower half has a darker tone you can maintain your walls cleaner from scratches or  «graffiti works» . Another advantage is that you can use dark tones down but maintain the brightness of the room if you keep light tones in the upper half.

Si quieres evitar la unión de los dos colores puedes poner un estante de poco fondo como el Ribba de Ikea. Kidsmopolitan lo hizo así en el dormitorio de Elisa y Leo y lo vemos también en la siguiente imagen.

If you want to hide the joint of the two colors, you can use a narrow shelf. Kidsmopolitan used the Ribba shelf from Ikea in Elisa and Leo´s room and we can also see it in the  next image:

El proyecto que desarrolló Kidsmopolitan para Elisa y Leo no sólo era de pared bicolor, la parte inferior estaba pintada con pintura de pizarra, lo que les permitía a los niños divertirse y sacar toda la creatividad que llevaban dentro. Escogimos hacerlo sólo en media pared porque se trataba de un cuarto no grande para dos niños y oscurecer toda la pared podía dar sensación de agobio y crear el efecto de espacio más reducido.

 The project we developed for Elisa and Leo´s room not only had a bicolor wall but also a blackboard. The lower part of the wall was painted with chalk paint, allowing the kids express their creativity and enjoy drawing in the wall. We decided to propose so because the space was not big and overshadowing a whole wall would make the room look smaller and more stressing.
